Evolution of Inghams

Inghams Solicitors is a high street firm of solicitors covering Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre and Lancashire. We operate a modern, professional service based on traditional values and a deep history.

Inghams Solicitors was founded in 1937 when Charles Ingham first opened an office on Talbot Road in Blackpool. The business later moved to Topping Street and then Leopold Grove.

The growth of the practice was interrupted by the Second World War. Charles Ingham joined the army and took part in the North African and Italian campaigns. He rose to the rank of Major.

Following the war, the practice expanded with the addition of a young Royal Artillery captain, Walter Clegg. Walter began his studies at Manchester University and qualified as a solicitor in 1947 via a correspondence course conducted from a prisoner of war camp in North Africa.

Walter Clegg (later knighted after serving as an MP for North Fylde), opened the Fleetwood office in the early 1950’s. This office remains today as Inghams’ head office, serving clients in Fleetwood, over Wyre, Hambleton, Knott End-on-Sea and beyond.

John Crowther then joined the partnership. John was a fighter pilot in the RAF during the Second World War. Like Sir Walter Clegg, he was captured by the Germans and became a prisoner of war.

A growing business

As Ingham, Clegg and Crowther, the firm saw rapid growth throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s. It became a significant and broad-based legal practice.

In 2000 the firm’s name was shortened to Inghams in tribute to its founder, Charles Ingham.

Today Inghams has 5 partners and consultants and 45 staff across 4 offices in Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Bispham, and Poulton-le-Fylde.

Modern legal service

The firm offers a complete range of high street legal services. We cater for individual and commercial clients, drawing on the expert knowledge of a team that is friendly, flexible and highly professional.

One of our key specialities is family law. We have solicitors that are members of the Advanced Family Law panel and the Children Panel. Inghams is also one of the few solicitors on the Fylde Coast to hold a Legal Aid franchise. Legal Aid is available at our Thornton-Cleveleys and Fleetwood branches for some family law matters.

In addition, our conveyancing department is accredited by the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme. This imposes particular regulation to ensure a robust conveyancing service.

Strength through traditional values

The traditional values of personal service and client care have brought us success ever since the firm was founded in 1937. After more than eight decades these remain the cornerstone of the practice.

When coupled with a progressive and dynamic approach, these core values ensure Inghams is always ready to quickly adapt to the ever changing legal world and the needs and requirements of its clients.
